Arrive in sunny Cancun ready to begin your Yucatan honeymoon! Receive your rental car at the airport and drive the short trip to your hotel. Take some time this evening to relax, soak up some Cancun sun and enjoy your first night in Mexico!
Leave Cancun and head deep into Mayan Territory. It’s possible to travel to Ek Balam where you can still climb the incredible Mayan Pyramids. Sit at the top and enjoy the breathtaking views of the jungle. Have lunch in Valladolid, a peaceful, colonial town with a charming historic centre. Appreciate the pretty pastel coloured houses, while eating an ice cream. After, head towards the famous Chichén Itzá and spend your evening relaxing in the gardens of your hotel.
This joumorning explore one of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World. Chichén Itzá was built by the Maya, and then reorganized by the Toltecs, Chichen Itza symbolises the unification of both religious cultures. It is the largest archaeological site in Yucatan. In the afternoon, travel to the beautiful colonial town of Izamal, which is entirely painted in yellow. Spend the evening strolling the colourful streets of Mérida. There are many historical monuments and delightful little plazas. This is perfect for an evening of listening to local music and sampling some Yucatan food.
Today, drive a beetle car, one of the most common vehicles in Mexico, and explore the north coast of the Peninsula. Take a kayak tour of some gorgeous lagoons and go in search of the beautiful pink flamingos that reside in the mangroves. Refresh yourself in the crystal clear water and enjoy some locally caught fish for lunch. Travel back in your beetle to spend your evening in Merida.
Today, travel through the forest to swim in cenotes, pools of water unique to this part of the world. Stop at a typical Mayan market where the colours of fruits and vegetables are matched with those of the women’s clothing. Explore two cenotes and have a refreshing swim. After, explore the archaeological site of Uxmal which is peaceful and not widely visited by tourists… Uxmal, in the Mayan language, means “Thrice Built”, but in reality the city was constructed five times. Spend the night in a historic hacienda.
Visit Hacienda Sotuta de Peon, a true living museum. Sotuta de Peon is the only Mexican hacienda where henequen (or Sisal) is still produced. Learn about how the plant is processed and take a ride on a horse-drawn cart through the fields. To cool down, go swimming in a cenote on the property of the Hacienda. Spend the night in a secluded wooden cabin with a truly rustic feel. Enjoy the peace and quiet at the side of the pool in the heart of the jungle and have a traditional Mayan massage.
Rise early this morning as you travel towards the Caribbean coast. It’s possible to stop at the mysterious ruins of Coba, one of the largest Mayan cities on the peninsula. Ride a bike through the archeological site and gaze upon a 42 meter high pyramid, a 9-storey high palace and the most extended network of cobbled roads ever discovered. Spend the evening in the bohemian town of Tulum, a Pueblo Magico situated on the Caribbean coast.
Spend your day relaxing on the white, sandy beaches of Tulum. Sunbathe in the Caribbean sun or take a dip in the crystal, blue waters. If you still have some energy, explore the archeaological site to the north of the main beach. This World Heritage Site sits on a cliff edge facing the Caribbean sea and witnessed the arrival of the first colonists in 1518. Spend your final evening dipping your toes in the warm Caribbean sea and enjoying a romantic meal at the hotel by candlelight. Accom: Ana y Jose. Visited: Tulum.
