Guanajuato is a very colorful town nestling in the heart of the sierra, which breathes a real Mexican joie de vivre.
My suggestion:
The center of Guanajuato is very pleasant and designed for walking. In the park, stop and have a fresh fruit salad - it's really refreshing.
Summary:
During my stay in Mexico, while wandering the lanes, I discovered a new side of Guanajuato. It is a surprising town whose position on a mountainside is very charming. From the center of town a path took me into a labyrinth of steep, narrow lanes up to the top of the town. Once I got to the top I discovered an amazing view over the city. I had already been struck by Guanajuato's festive air, which was reinforced by its colorful houses. From up high, this impression was much more powerful. At night Guanajuato comes alive little by little as its lights give it a party atmosphere. I recommend you find a bar with a terrace where you can order a Margarita or, of course, a mezcal, Mexico's own agave based spirit, like the famous Tequila.

Don't forget to visit the Cervantes museum.
Summary:
Beautiful Guanajuato is on the Mexican heights, in the center of the country, at more than 2,000 meters above sea level. Originally it was a gold and silver mining town, exploited by the Spanish colonists. Today, it mostly lives on tourism.
