The most beautiful getaway during my stay in Japan! There's no time to get bored to Hakone, there is so much to see… and to taste! Like hydrangea ice cream, of a pretty, soft purple colour.
Less attractive are the black eggs cooked in the fumaroles of Owakudani. They are supposed to extend the life of the person who eats them by seven years. Personally, seeing all the signs warning visitors about the harmful gases, I preferred to abstain.
Then enjoy the view from the cable car and cross Lake Ashi in… a pirate boat! Hakone is truly surprising. On the other hand, avoid the pedal boats, which are dear and dilapidated and go to the red tori on foot instead. The highlight of the visit: the magnificent sanctuary nestled in the heart of the forest.
