Day 1: Welcome to Hanoi

Day 2: Good Morning Hanoi with Market Visit and Street Food Tour

Depart from your hotel in the early morning to take a walk through Hang Be market – one of the most famous markets in Hanoi thanks to its diverse array of goods and eye catching displays. Take this chance to observe the daily life of the locals and capture some memorable pictures. Then, start to explore the diversified architecture of Hanoi and its famous 36 streets of the Old Quarter by a walking tour.  The purpose of today’s walking tour is to discover Hanoi’s architecture, which reflects the atmosphere and soul of Hanoi. The rich diversity reaches from Vietnamese, Chinese and French colonial to Communist architecture. You will find Hanoi a real architectural treasure as you explore a traditional tube house. And you will see how attractive a small pagoda in the center of Hanoi can be.

Just before your lunch at a local restaurant, visit Hanoi’s first university - the Temple of Literature - dating back to 1070. This historical centre of learning is now dedicated to Confucian worship. In the afternoon, continue your visit to the Ethnology Museum to have a glimpse into the richness and diversity of Vietnam 54 ethnic groups. You’ll have free time to explore it on your own.

In the evening, your guide will come back to take you to taste a wide variety of Vietnamese specialties, such as banh cuon (steamed rolled rice pancake) and banh mi (the famous Vietnamese sandwich that even appears in the Oxford Dictionary). Then, stop at a bia hoi (beer club) on Ta Hien Street and taste the fresh Vietnamese beer that is incredibly popular with locals and travelers alike. After that, you will head to a pho shop, where you will be able to choose between regular pho or pho tron (pho noodles mixed with chicken without soup). Then, make your way along Hoan Kiem Lake for one of the tastiest ice creams in Hanoi. You will then say goodbye to your guide and go on to explore Hanoi by night on your own.

Day 3: Hanoi - Pu Luong Nature Reserve - Water Wheels & Bamboo Rafting

After breakfast, head out of Hanoi to Pu Luong Nature Reserve, passing along charming little roads. En route, the road ascends gradually until you find yourself in the middle of a landscape of mountains set at a medium altitude. Upon arriving in Pu Luong Nature Reserve, which is populated by the white Thai and Muong people. On a walk through the park, you can see plenty of incredible flora and fauna, with more than 1000 listed plant species and many species of birds. After checking-in at the lodge, enjoy lunch with a beautiful view over the rice terraces.

In the afternoon, drive to Chieng Lau Bridge, where you will start a 5-kilometer walk to discover the water mills along the Cham River. Get up close to each water wheel and discover how water is moved from river to handmade bamboo aqueducts via simple constructions of all sizes. Arriving at a local fisherman’s house, you have a short rest to gear up for the bamboo rafting adventure on river. Float along the calm river and enjoy the views, in between learning how to paddle and steer your handcrafted rafts. Then, you will continue your walk to the Tan Lap Bridge, where you will find your vehicle and return to the lodge. From the lodge, there are a few great spots to view and photograph the sunset: from the bungalow, directly above the rice terraces, and with the reflections on the swimming pool.

Day 4: Hiking through Ethnic Villages & Waterfall

In the morning, wake up early to enjoy the sunrise. At only a few minutes' walk to the rice terraces, you can often find locals already working in the fields, which will provide you with some excellent photos. You will then return to the hotel for breakfast. After some breakfast and rest, start a descent into a valley facing the lodge, walking along the paths, surrounded by rice terraces, near the village of Don. Then, you will continue treading along paths through fields of corn, other terraced fields, and small villages. After a picnic meal, rest for a moment and take in the freshness of the river before heading back to the lodge. The end of the afternoon will be free. A workshop on editing pictures will be conducted by your tour-leader at the end of the afternoon in order to give you some tips on using a light room.

Day 5: Pu Luong Nature Reserve – Transfer to Ninh Binh

Your morning will be your own! Stroll around the lodge by yourself or enjoy the infinity swimming pool with panoramic view.

In the afternoon, head out from Pu Luong Nature Reserve by taking a road that crosses through beautiful, picturesque landscapes. Arriving at the site of Hoa Lu temple, one of the most famous sites of Vietnam for its historical remnants and impressive limestone peaks, which gives it the name “Terrestrial Halong Bay”. There, you will also discover in the heart of the forest the temples of king Dinh and Le dating back to the 10th century. After that, your guide will escort you to check in your hotel and have free time to relax.

Day 6: Ninh Binh - Trang An Complex - Sunset at Mua Cave

After breakfast, you will step onto a sampan for a boat ride to admire the protected site of Trang An Complex with its natural caves, aquatic landscapes and fresh air. In the late afternoon, your guide will escort you to climb and enjoy sunset from the peak of Mua cave before returning your hotel for overnight stay. Down a sleepy road between rice paddies, this cave has panoramic views from the peak above. A stone staircase beside the cave entrance zigzags through the karst (beware the goat droppings) and it’s almost 500 steps to a simple altar to Quan Am (the Goddess of Mercy). Look west for the Ngo Dong River winding through Tam Coc.

Day 7: Off to Bai Tu Long Bay - Cruising & Kayaking

In the morning, you will travel to Halong and arrive around noon. There, you will embark on a wooden boat cruise in the must-see Halong Bay. This world-famous bay is one of the most beautiful landscapes in Vietnam, with its giant rock islets covered in luxuriant vegetation overlooking the waters. Halong Bay includes some 1,900 islands and islets of rocky peaks, often uninhabited and unvisited. This scene creates a spectacular marine landscape, which earned it UNESCO World Heritage status in 1994. You will be served lunch aboard with excellent and freshly caught seafood from the bay. In the afternoon, you’ll explore the well- hidden Thien Canh Son cave then enjoy relaxing on a white sandy beach at Hon Co island, swimming or kayaking. After dinner, you will have the chance to enjoy a night fishing session on the boat.

Day 8: Continue Cruising - Return to Hanoi

Early in the morning and depending on the season, you will wake up to enjoy the sunrise over the aquamarine waters of the bay. Visit Vung Vieng fishing village by a rustic row-boat. Then the cruise will tour around the bay while an A la carte lunch is served until you disembark at the end of the morning. After that, you will then return to Hanoi.
