The Kingdom of Siam dates from the sixth century BC. Its golden age occurred before the invasion of the Burmese, who would ultimately be defeated. Then, from 1855 onward, the Kingdom opened itself up to international trade, particularly with England. Multiple military dictatorships ruled the country before the adoption of a new Constitution in 2007. Today, the political situation in Thailand remains unstable.
