When I was staying in Chiang Rai I was dying to know what the Golden Triangle was like, so I hired a motorbike and set off to explore the region. Wiang Chai was my first stop on the road. The landscape around Wiang Chai is mostly made up of rice paddies where you can see the locals working during the day, and in the distance are the mountains looming above the fields. If you get the chance to go there when the rice is still brilliant green, you’ll find the views even more amazing. If you get the urge to play a few rounds, you’ll find an 18 hole golf course at the Santiburi Country Club, near the city of Wiang Chai, ideal for lovers of sporting vacations!
