Kota Bharu is the capital of Kelantan State, on the northeast coast of the Malaysian peninsula. With a population of 500,000, it's one of the biggest towns in the north of the country.

My suggestion:
In the evening, you can eat at a little night market, not far from the main bus station, where you'll find a selection of basic dishes. Accompanied by a glass of fruit juice, the food's delicious!
Summary:

To be honest, Kota Bharu was not my favourite town in Malaysia. It does have some museums and temples you can visit, but, as far as I'm concerned, there's no need to hang around. The Thai border is only a few kilometres to the north, so Kota Bharu is on a crossroads for people travelling in the region.

You're best off touring its surrounds or heading out to the stunning islands. You should visit the Perenthian Islands, which are two tiny isles off the coast. You can get there by taking a bus to Kuala Besut Jetty followed by a boat to Kecil, if you're after a young, party feel, or Besar, if you're on a family break. My advice if you're travelling with your family!
