The Baie de Baly National Park is where marine and terrestrial ecosystems come together. Spread over 220 square miles, this reserve is home to many plant and animal species.
My suggestion:
Look closely and don't miss the tortoises!
Summary:
Interspersed with a dry dense forest, rivers and lakes and adorned with dunes and a beautiful coral reef where dolphins and dugongs swim, this region is a place conducive to biodiversity.
Bordered by the Kapiloza and Andranomano Rivers, as well as the Mozambique Channel, the Baie de Baly Reserve is the haven where more than 80% of the island's marine bird species live, including the endangered bald eagle, Madagascar's largest of bird of prey, the African sacred ibis and the heron.
But the reserve's superstar is the angonoka, also known as the ploughshare or spurred tortoise, the plastron or ventral part of the shell is prominent. This animal's only habitat is the Baie de Baly, where 2000 specimens subsist...only in Madagascar!
