    Best parts:
The opportunity to explore a fascinating new country but know that we were not on our own. Not having to worry about transport from A to B while we were in China.
    Worst parts:
Some glitches with meeting guides. It would have been helpful to have their name and phone number and an exact meeting point. Guides sometimes rushed through sites with limited time for photos or souvenir shopping. They perhaps forget this is our first time whereas they probably visit weekly. We had to remind them a few times we needed a break for lunch. Standard of guide varied. Travelling to Shanghai by train was too long at over 8 hours Yangtze Cruise ship was described as 5 stars, it did not deserve one star. Poor weather and pollution but unavoidable!

Our local agent was helpful throughout and even met us on arrival. In a country that is so different culturally it was reassuring to know that help was always to hand.See more

About the Yangtze Cruise, first I'm so sorry that the boat gives you a terrible experience on board. But it's true that Yangtze Gold 2 is a 5 stars boat. It is one of the largest and most modern ships of Yangtze Gold Cruises. I checked their official website, but it seems that the English version is not not available right now. I think that you could find the more information on line. http://www.yangtzegoldcruises.com/indexnew2.asp?flmc=hjyl&flmc2=n2 Please understand that the Yangtze cruise boat in China is not patch on the intentional boat (such as the Royal Caribbean). But of course I will choose the better boat for our visitors the next time. I have contacted our local agency and we have sent the photos you took to the boat company, I'm waiting for their reply. If it is a normal problem of this boat, we will not use it in the future. Thank you for you understanding in advance. Best wishes. RachelSee more

    Best parts:
    * Everything running smoothly - guides always there to meet us. * Quality of accommodation - ranged from good to very good indeed. * Guilin and surrounding areas - such a contrast to the wealthier areas, rice terrace visit phenomenal. * Shanghai - I don't have sufficient vocabulary. Breathtaking. * Chinese people - warm, funny, friendly. * Guides - so informative, polite, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly.
    Worst parts:
    * Too many temples. Fascinating at first, but eventually wore thin. * The oppressive climate (would go at a different time of year). * At some tourist attractions the sheer volume of other tourists massively detracted from enjoyment. * By day 12 eating Chinese food twice each day had begun to pall (minor issue only).
    Summary:

However, actually experiencing it first hand is a completely different matter. We travelled to Beijing and returned from Shanghai. Between times we undertook 2 long train journeys (one overnight), 2 internal flights and a number of long minibus journeys. That really gave us a feel for the scale and diversity of this fascinating, friendly and exciting country.See more
