An hour by road from the Bolivian capital, Chacaltaya is a mountain in the Cordillera Real range, situated in the department of La Paz.

My suggestion:
In order to adjust to the extreme altitudes that Bolivia is known for, I would advise you to stay and relax for a few days in La Paz.
Summary:

Did you know that Chacaltaya was once the world's highest ski resort? Although it's now closed as a result of climate change, the former ski station continues to inspire a great many travellers, particularly amateur mountaineers.

At a height of 5,394m, Mount Chacaltaya ("cold road" in the Aymara language) certainly lives up to its name. It must be said that the glacial winds which sweep the Cordillera Real are not the most welcoming! Situated 30 kilometres north of the Bolivian capital, it's best to visit Chacaltaya during spring or summer, when the weather is a little milder.

When climbing it, I discovered a fantastic view of Nevado Illimani and Huayna Potosí. If you're lucky, and if the sun comes out, you might even catch a glimpse of Lake Titicaca.
