Etchmiadzin Cathedral is one of the most important Armenian cultural and religious sites. Many also consider it to be the oldest cathedral in the world.
My suggestion
Etchmiadzin is in fact a vast complex consisting of various different churches and monasteries, and it is difficult to work out where exactly the cathedral is located. To find it, head behind the souvenir shop. The cathedral lies just past it.
Etchmiadzin is a small town at 25 minutes (by mini bus) from Erevan Considered to be Armenia's 'Vatican', it's the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

I recommend you take a day trip from Erevan, as the town has good public transport links.

If you are going to visit Etchmiadzine Cathedral then you should visit Vagharshapat, the town in which it is situated, which is a beautiful historic city.
