A classified UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Haghpat Monastery is without doubt one of the most beautiful in the country.

My suggestion:
Whilst you're in Haghpat, you can also easily visit the neighbouring Sanahin Monastery.
Summary:

What impressed me the most with the Haghpat Monastery is its incredible setting - it clings to a hillside in the heart of the Debed Gorge. The monastery sits proudly on the gorge's flank and the view from its headland is quite simply breathtaking.

The monastery complex is no less impressive. Built in the 10th Century, the site's ancient walls remain intact and you'll be able to explore its church, a chapel, dining hall, library as well as see some magnificent, traditional Armenian tombstones. The Haghpat Monastery is a must during a trip to Armenia and, if you're touring the north of the country, there's no excuse for not paying it a visit.
