Slovenia

What to put in your suitcase when travelling in Slovenia

With the country located at the gateway to the Balkans and at the crossroads of Western Europe, choosing to visit Slovenia is to choose a still too little-known destination that offers plenty to delight anyone who decides to visit it.

To work out what kind of clothing to take with you, simply think of Slovenia as having more or less the same climate as France. You'll therefore need quite thick clothing to protect you from the cold in winter and quite light clothing to keep you comfortable in the heat of summer. Most people who go to Slovenia choose it as a travel destination because of its natural landscapes and many hiking trails. Good walking shoes/boots are therefore essential. Those who would prefer instead to take things easy lounging on the beaches of the Adriatic will need to remember to pack their trunks/swimming costume.

As far as your first aid kit is concerned, you will of course need to include the usual plasters, bandages, ointments etc. required to treat everyday cuts and bruises. You will also need some mosquito repellent. Walkers should consider taking plasters to help with blisters and sunbathers will need to remember their sun cream so they can sunbathe with peace of mind, or failing that some sort of after sun lotion to treat accidental sunburn.

If you want to be able to prove to your friends and family that Slovenia really deserves to be better known when you get back, remember to take your camera or camcorder and a sufficient supply of memory cards to store your images/videos on. As far as withdrawing money or paying for things is concerned, you will just need an internationally accepted debit or credit card, e.g. Visa or Mastercard(Slovenia is a member of the Eurozone).

And finally, you simply cannot go to Slovenia without remembering to pack, at the bottom of your suitcase somewhere, that certain yearning to explore new horizons. However, if you have already made the decision to visit this destination, far from the tourist crowds, you have demonstrated that you do indeed possess this essential quality.
