The Gili Islands are three heavenly islands to the north-west of Lombok.

My suggestion:
Hop between the different islands to enjoy the different atmospheres!
Summary:

Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are three islands off the coast of Lombok to which you can escape for a few days and make the most of your relaxing holiday.

Motor vehicles are prohibited on the Gili Islands, which is great because you can immerse yourself completely in nature and fully enjoy the beaches without having to deal with pollution and the noise of cars. To get around, I walked a lot and I also hired a bike one afternoon. However, you can also take a horse-drawn carriage, known as a "cidomo".

Fans of scuba diving will be delighted: there are more than sixteen sites around the Gili Islands and the seabeds are extremely varied. Equipped with flippers, a mask and a snorkel, I was able to observe shoals of multicoloured fish and swim next to turtles, which is an experience that I will definitely not forget!

The Gili islands are a little paradise on Earth. No matter how much time you plan to spend on the Gili islands, you will no doubt want to stay longer.

My suggestion:
These islands are good for switching off for a moment, but otherwise they neither abound in the culture nor other attractions that the country is able to offer.
Summary:
Before I set out for Indonesia, a friend had recommended the Gili islands to me. I also had another acquaintance who was working there for a few months as a diving instructor. Going there while on my trip to Indonesia was therefore a must!
You get there quickly by speed-boat (watch out, it jolts) and once there it is as if you were in a bubble, cut off from the rest of the world. The islands economy is almost solely dependent on tourism, so if you imagined you were going to live through a genuine local experience, forget it. Still, you really enjoy spending these few days here, not really paying attention to the passing of time, letting your life be governed by the rhythm of the rising and setting sun.
As for things to do once there, of course I advise you to do a bit of diving (there are dozens of diving schools on the spot), otherwise a simple mask and snorkel are enough to catch a glimpse of multi-coloured coral and fish.
I am in two minds about the Gili islands, in the sense that I had a really good experience once there, but the real Indonesia is not to be found here.

Archipelago of three little islands located to the west of Lombok.

My suggestion:
Favour Gili Meno island, madly charming.
Summary:

These are the The Gili islands : Gili Meno, Gili Air and Gili Trawagan. Three little islands overlooked by the big tours of Indonesia, only accessible by boat.

I strongly recommend that tourists on a trip to Indonesia go to the Gili islands and mainly to Gili Meno , which has neither electricity nor cars and where you go about on foot or by donkey cart. The evening walk, when you go across the island to watch the sunset on the water while you sip a beer, brings the entire Gili Meno population together.

The landscape of these islands is postcard pretty: deserted beaches with fine sand, turquoise water and bungalows on stilts facing the sea. You do not notice time passing and that is such a good feeling.
