Ratanakiri is Cambodia's most northerly province and shares borders with Laos to the north and Vietnam to the south.

My suggestion:
There are many opportunities to go on treks through jungle and to villages populated by ethnic minorities in the region, which is an excellent way to discover and explore the natural and cultural wealth this province has to offer.
Summary:

Ratanakiri is, like Mondolkiri, a hilly region largely covered in forest, though the latter is tending to become reduced due to deforestation, which is not always carried out legally. Due to its natural geography, Ratanakiri offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Here's a short overview of what you can do in the region.

In particular – and this is no doubt your main reason for visiting the region – you can play at being explorers via the many jungle hikes the region has to offer. There are also quite an impressive number of waterfalls, my favourite being Cha Ong, due to the fact you can bathe there and actually walk behind the waterfall. And with protected areas such as Virachey National Park to visit and the possibility of going on elephant-back treks, you've no doubt got the picture by now: it's hard to get bored here. Exploring Cambodiaby visiting Ratanakiri will undoubtedly provide you with some unforgettable memories to take back home with you!
