Argentina's trekking capital: El Chaltèn

Known as Argentina’s trekking capital El Chaltèn is a small village in the south of the country. Although it is less famous than El Calafate, El Chaltèn promises wonderful time for those who love the wilderness, who dream of seeing breathtaking views, and enjoy practicing mountain sports. We recommend going between October and April when the weather is sunny.

El Chaltèn is the ideal starting point for several hikes in the region, especially in the Los Glaciares National Park. The park is free to enter, unlike many other places. The 539,300 hectare park has a good mixture of natural scenery as it is divided between icy peaks, mirror lakes and deep forests. You might want to start preparing earlier for the cold weather, so you can make the most out of your time there. There are several paths and most of the hiking tracks are easily accessible. While a good physical shape is recommended, you don't need to be an athlete to complete the trails!

The adventure to Fitz Roy Mountain

Argentina 3 Picture Fitz Roy Mountain is located in Los Glaciares National Park and rises to 3405 metres above sea level. If you begin your journey in the village, you will need to walk for 8 hours to reach the top. While the first few hours may not be challenging, the final stretch before reaching the summit and enjoying the view takes quite a lot of energy. Halfway up, there's a sign which advises you that you'll need to be in good physical shape in order to continue. If you manage to get to the top, you will have the chance to observe closely the mythical mountain of the Andes and the blue reflection of its peak. Interestingly, El Chaltèn was named after the reflection, it means blue in the Tehuelche language. It is essential to check the weather forecast before you begin your journey because views masked by clouds can get boring.
