70 km from Mexico City Popocatépetl is a legendary volcano which, despite being 5,452 meters high, can be difficult to see.

My suggestion:
You need to get up very early to have a hope of seeing it. Once the sun is too high, it becomes invisible.
Summary:
The legendary, snow covered, enormous mountain of Popocatépetl, which is 5,452 meters high, is between Mexico City and Puebla.

Popocatépetl is an enormous smoking volcano close to Mexico City.

My suggestion:
You can go to the foot of the volcano, in the small town of Amecameca. You will have a wonderful view of Popocatépetl and his Aztec princess, Ixtaccíhuatl , ("the sleeping woman" in Nahuatl).
Summary:
You should know that it has been illegal to climb Popocatépetl since the beginning of the 90s, for security reasons. Popocatépetl's most powerful eruption began in 1996 and lasted 7 years! The volcano is still very active today. If you still want to get closer to it, you can climb Iztaccihuatl by the road which leaves from Paso de Cortés. It's not a technical climb and gives you a superb view of the volcano.
