Monterrey

It is true that we don't think of Monterrey when we plan a visit to the north of Mexico. But, this large city, the third largest in the country, has lots to offer.

The city is at the foot of the Sierra Madre mountain range. A visit of its Macroplaza is to add to your agenda! It is the time to visit the heart of this huge city. Several interesting museums are to be found there, like the museum of mexican history. A walk through the centre allows you to see architecture with modern and neoclassical influences.

From Monterrey, it is possible to leave brouhaha from the large city and make several day trips. Personally, I recommend that you go to the Villa de Santiago and its surroundings to see the Cola de Caballo. This here is about an hour from Monterrey. It is a matter of an impressive waterfall in a calm park set in nature.

Saltillo

Saltillo is the capital of Coahuila, this state in the north-east of Mexico

The cathedral of Saltillo, is also known as the Cathedral of Santiago, definitely worth a detour. This is situated right in the heart of the historic centre, on the Plaza de Armas. It is the heritage of the Spanish. If you get the chance to visit during Holy Week, do so! This is the best time to discover local traditions. If not, a visit on Sunday to the weekly mass is also a good time to discover these customs. Very close to Plaza de Armas, there is the Alameda park. It is a great place to roam whilst learning a little bit about the history of the city. Several statues there represent historical characters. It's also a great place to eat tacos or nachos, to try some of the local specialties!

The Biodôme Museum of the desert exhibits the biodiversity that would have been found there millions of years ago, in the time of the dinosaurs. In this moment, the region enjoyed a tropical, so it now it has a dry climate. The climate changes across millions of years have transformed the canyons and rivers into a great desert. In addition, the museum of the desert will please dinosaur fans,. We find reconstructions of these great beasts of nature! In addition there is a presentation of the current fauna and flora of the desert of Chihuahua.

Finally, a trip to the northern states of Mexico shouldn't put you off. There are exceptional natural beauties mixed with the town centre that we can easily visit in 4 or 5 days.
