The lovely small town of Izamal, (whose name means "the rose who came down from the sky"), is better known in Yucatan under the name of the "Yellow City".

My suggestion:
Izamal is a very small town and you can visit it in less than a day. I recommend you stop here on the way between visiting Chichén Itzá and Mérida
Summary:
Half way between Chichén Itzá and Méridais Izamal, one of those typical little Yucatan villages that you can discover during a trip to Mexico.

A classified 'Pueblo Magico' (Magical Village), Izamal is a colonial village to the east of Yucatan in Mexico.

My suggestion:
The main attraction of Izamal is its photogenic architecture. Use a stopover here as a chance to try some authentic Mexican dishes and breathe in its typically, Mexican village feel.
Summary:
A beautiful colonial town, Izamal was once an important Mayan religious power base. The arrival of the Spanish saw the destruction of the Mayan temples and pyramids, which were replaced by Hispanic colonial buildings and churches. It's one of Mexico's 'Pueblos Mágicos' - towns classified by the Department of Tourism for their remarkable heritage.
