Mexico

The most important vocabulary to know during your trip in Mexico

Spanish is Mexico's official language, but it's a colonial version that differs from modern day Spanish.

Pronounce the 's' at the end!

Mexicans still use old Spanish that is no longer spoken in Spain. For example, a Mexican will say "carro" for a car, whilst a Spaniard will use "coche". Compared to Spanish from Spain, Mexican Spanish is easier to understand. I quickly discovered that Mexicans speak more slowly and clearly pronounce words - it's great if you want to brush up on your Spanish!

But don't panic about the language barrier - Mexicans are patient and kind. With a smile and a few gestures, you should have no problem being understood.
