Fanjove is the main island in theSongo Songo Archipelago where you can stay in luxury in the island's only hotel.

My suggestion:
Book a flight from Dar Es Salaam, Kilwa or Mafia, otherwise you can take a boat from Kilwa, which is an adventure in itself.
Summary:

Of coure I loved Fanjove Island... It's quite something to find yourself on an idyllic island that's virtually unheard of and be able to top up your tan under a coconut tree, on a deserted beach.

I spent my days snorkelling, kite surfing and walking - it only takes an hour to walk around the island! A Robinson Crusoe experience, if ever there was! I saw dolphins swimming in the lagoon early in the morning...

There's only one hotel here, which adds an intimate, exclusive feel to the place. But despite it being costly, don't expect the lap of luxury...the luxury here is the pleasure of being alone! It's a stylish eco-lodge built from natural materials that blend in with its beach setting... It's a dream come true.
