Climbing this mountain has become big business in the <a href="/tanzania/">Tanzanian tourist industry</a>. But what an amazing experience! Around 55% of climbers reach the top of Uhuru Peak, which is also known as Kibo. So only around half of the people who try, get to drop to their knees in front of the green sign telling them they have conquered the 5,895m of Kilimanjaro. It was here that I had one of the most emotional travel experiences of my life.I burst in to tears just a few meters from the top. Lashed by an icy wind, overcome with joy, I slowly got there, putting one foot in front of the other. Your guide will point out the huge crater that sits to the right. And a few meters to your left, you'll see how immense the glacier is. There is nothing more impressive. Even if it's no longer possible to walk around the cone that we see in photos, it will still remind you of an old, Masai warrior; wise but with his youth just a memory. When the weather is good, watching the sun rise over the immense plains will be the best view of your life.
