When to go
From April to June
Minimum stay
1 to 2 days
The most difficult thing about Tamatert is actually getting to it. I chose to take the route through the Asif n'Oufra for the view, but don't go there if the weather is stormy, the river floods and with the lightning in the mountains, it's too dangerous. The route is complicated, even in good weather, and you need to be very careful not to slip. Allow at least two or three hours of walking.
The village of Tamatert is pretty basic, but I did find some reasonable self-catering accommodation and guest-houses. You can leave from Tamatert to access the Toubkal refuge: the path is accessible. Then you can get back on the footpath that leads from Imlil to the refuge for two or three kilometres.
