Oh, the magnificent walls of Taroudant which emerge like an oasis in the middle of the desert! With 6km of length, they are very impressive and beautiful with their ochre colour. This ancient citadel has almost 130 towers and turrets which made it impassable for its enemies. The visit of the battlements is particularly interesting. Situated in the Souss valley between the High-Atlas and the Anti-Atlas, the town is penetrated by the Souss river which feeds the valley. All around the town, the region is very fertile and lush. I really like Taroudant and I would recommend to all travellers that they stop by this town during <a href="/morocco/">a stay in Morocco</a>. Don't miss going to walk in the medina and the souk. The lovely Kasbah of Taroudant and its gardens are worth the detour.

Everyone talked about Taroudant's souks during <a href="/morocco/">my holiday in Morocco</a>. It's true that they are very lively. I was even told that they are the liveliest in southern Morocco. I wandered around several souks in Taroudant but I preferred the stone carvers one. They sell their masterpieces in the labyrinth of little lanes in the centre of town. And if you like the atmosphere then you can visit the Berber market, only a few metres from there. Its the biggest daily market where you'll find not only food but also cheap clothing (and not just djellabas!) and even china. But the must have are the famous Moroccan spices. Ask the grocer for some ras el-hanout: a mixture of as many as forty powdered spices (cumin, paprika, saffron...) But be careful of the cost, ras el-hanout has a high price.

Once the capital of Sous, Taroudant, which is the door to the Anti-Atlas and High Atlas Mountains, reigns over the immense fertile plain in the Sous valley.
