Summary:

Andohahela National Park, covering more than 187 796 acres, is a place of transition between the Madagascan south and east. Thus, here you find three types of climate, hot and humid, hot and dry and fairly hot depending on where you are. It is the only reserve south of the tropic of Capricorn that has a dense rainforest. Its altitude varies between 393 and 6470 feet.

Andohahela is divided into three parts:

  • The Malio site with its low altitude rainforest
  • The Tsimehaly site which corresponds to the transition zone, where you find cascades and natural pools.
  • The Ihazofotsy site characterised by its bush

The park is a very rich biodiversity reservoir because it brings together these different climate types. Here, you find a dozen species of lemurs, more than a hundred different kinds of birds and, of course, many amphibians and reptiles. Here, maybe you will even come across a Do, a yellow snake with brown markings that can be as long as 10 feet 6 inches, and is a striking encounter of any trip to Madagascar !
