When to go
Between April and October (dry season), there is a risk of cyclones between the end of December and mid-April.
Of the 129 species of birds that nest there, 75 are native. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to see an osprey or a banded kestrel...Among the 15 species of lemur that live in the reserve is the famous mouse lemur, the smallest primate in the world. In Ankarafantsika there are also reptiles, iguanas, chameleons, and native fresh water turtles. In brief, an amazing concentration of wild life to be discovered during a trip to Madagascar.
As to plants, there are more than 800 species recorded, including the Sakoanala, a big tree of between 25 and 35 metres, which oozes a reddish latex when you scratch the trunk, and which flowers in September and October.
In the park you can also visit a traditional raffia weaving workshop.
