All around the village of Ambatozavary there are many ylang-ylang and coffee plantations, which, together with fishing, are the main economic resources of the inhabitants. Ambatozavary is the gateway to the beautiful natural reserve of Lokobe, which can be reached either by land or by sea by travelling along the island by pirogue. From the village it is also possible to travel to Nosy Faly, a very beautiful sacred island where the princes of the region are buried.
Ambatozavary is home to the Nosy Be Tourism and Hotel Training Centre (CFTH) which trains young Malagasy students for the tourism industry. The centre has its own hotel and restaurant, the Lokobe Lodge, where future chefs and waiters hone their skills and put their knowledge into practice.
