Anakao (Madagascar)

The Vezo fishermen living in the village of Anakao say the gods help them with their catches. Moreover, Anakao is a marine jewel on the island. Its crystal clear waters and lagoons rich in aquatic flora and fauna are a paradise for diving and snorkelling fans. You can take part in many sports there: kitesurfing, windsurfing and sea kayaking for example. The wave names Flame Ball and Jelly Babies are known to surfing insiders.

The parade of brightly-coloured canoes lined up along the sea at sunset is an idyllic picture that gets painted before our eyes every night.

Near Anakao, you'll find the little islands of Nosy Ve, home to the endemic tropicbird, and Nosy Satrana, which is inhabited by herons.

On the village trail, don't miss the ancient monumental Vezo tombs, built of stacked stones. One of them is 100 feet long!
