Ambanja (Madagascar)

Madagascar cocoa beans are world renowned. Even if it only represents between 1 and 5% of world production, the island's cocoa is highly esteemed. This is especially because it produces a rare type, the "criollo", which is famous for its strong flavour and low bitterness.

A visit to Ambanja is therefore a wonderful occasion to discover its cocoa plantations. For example, you can visit the Millot plantation on the road to Antsahampano, which was established over a century ago. Many of the world's top chefs have done just that. You will see the cocoa trees that grow in the shade of centuries-old trees and learn all about the farming, harvesting and processing of cocoa beans. And, of course, it's all 100% organic!
