Situated in the far east of Burma (today known as Myanmar), Kyainge Tong is one of the few areas of the Golden Triangle that can be visited by tourists.

My suggestion:
Even though Burma seems to have arrived at its democratic turning point, remember to seek information about any permits that may be necessary.
Summary:

Even though there's nothing really exceptional to see there, I was charmed by the intense activity and the diversity of this crossroads city. Many different ethnic groups live in Kyainge Tong and the surrounding region, which consists of mountains covered in dense vegetation, made me feel quite comfortable there.

I highly recommend a visit to the market. The cultural and ethnic diversity of the city and the surrounding mountains make it a colourful place that is rich in all kinds of products you won't see anywhere else during your discovery of Burma.

There are many hikes possible from the city. These will take you among green mountains and tribal villages, which will be an excellent opportunity to meet the Burmese minorities, who are generally very hospitable.
