It's a chic seaside resort on the Garden Route, the last stop before the Tsitsikamma National Park.

My suggestion:
Go there during the whale season (which is in winter, from March to October), it's also the best season to go to dive with sharks at Gansbaai, not far away.
Summary:

Plettenberg Bay is one of the most pleasant stops on the coast in this part of the country. The Robberg Reserve, next to this little town, is splendid. The atmosphere there is very upmarket, but also calm, with luxury villas that have direct access to the sea.

The view over the mouth of the river and the wild beach from the the higher areas of town is incredible. Lookout's central beach and restaurant are great for bathing or dining. The town centre, with its unique streets, shops and restaurants, is very pleasant. On the other hand, don't expect to find much night life, the clientèle is not very young.

It's also possible to stay at Plettenbery Bay to visit the neighbouring Tsitsikamma National Park, visited by more young people because this forest's speciality is offering extreme sports: rafting, canyoning, freefalling, high-wire tree walks...
