On arriving at the little, peaceful town that is St. Lucia, we were welcomed by signs telling us to 'beware of hippos during the night'! We quickly realised who was in charge here! There are signs all over the place and posing beside them for photos is a great souvenir to send back to your family at home. We were, however, wary about wandering down the main street during the night...we were a bit scared about bumping into a grumpy hippo during his nightime walk.
You can go for walks along marked paths by the river, from where you'll spot crocodiles lazing on the opposite bank. You'll also come across zebras if you head out on the little roads around town...You'll feel like you're in an African fairytale! A bit further away is a mangrove reserve but I didn't go there. As with all parks here you need to pay an entry fee and I was a bit fed up with forking out money every time...
If you fancy a good stroll, head to the huge beach that borders the town. If the weather's fine, don't forget your hat and sunscreen, otherwise you risk being burnt to cinders! This wide beach goes on forever; a beautiful place where families come to swim (fully dressed!).
