A Buddhist monastery, Kopan is also a cult place of education open to all.

My suggestion:
Get information about the paths to take and organise a walk leaving from Boudhanath.
Summary:

A Buddhist monastery in the Tibetan tradition, Kopan is located in the high grounds around Boudhanath. This community has teaching in English and attracts many Westerners looking for a calm break. Meditation, Buddhism studies, retreats and practices are on the programme. The monastery is also a place of residence for its participants.

Reaching Kopan Monastery is the chance to do a charming walk in Kathmandu Valley. Amongst the paddy fields and dense vegetation, you can always see the holy place on the horizon. I must have taken back roads because the walk turned out quite long... Also note that there is a Nepalese paper factory in the area where you can observe the hand crafted work and the large sheets of paper drying in the sun.

Once having arrived at the monastery, you'll have the pleasure to discover elegant flower gardens. Statues of deities and the little stupa are also very pleasant. However it was the place's peaceful atmosphere that I preferred. You are a observing the calm, the nature, and the panoramic view over Boudhanath.

Visiting Kopan Monastery is a beautiful discovery however it's to be done if your trip to Nepal is quite long.

I must add that I visited Nepal before the 2015 earthquake so it's possible that places have changed a lot since then.
