If you leave from Phedi, Dhampus, situated at a lofty 1,650m high, is the first stop on the Annapurnas Sanctuary Trek.

My suggestion:
If you want to visit the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), then make sure you get a hiking permit in Dhampus before you enter the zone.
Summary:

Yey, you've arrived! Dhampus signals that you've arrived in the ACAP, a dream destination for travellers heading to Nepal. The village is on the doorstep of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project and the departure point for numerous walks in the region, the best known being the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek.
The trail is a mix of steps, paths that cross rhododendron forests and descents through rice fields that sculpt the mountainside. Flapping prayer flags add a further decorative touch. The view from Dhampus is spectacular. Snow-capped peaks line the horizon...Dhaulagiri, the Annapurnas, Hiunchuli as well as the distinctive shape of Machapuchare.

*After the devastating earthquakes that shook Nepal in April and May 2015 the country is slowly getting back on its feet. This article was written before these catastrophic events occurred.
