Reviews of Kaokoland

In the far north of Namibia, next to Angola, Kaokoland is one of the most remote and inaccessible areas of the country, truly off the beaten track.

My suggestion:
You need a 4x4, patience and a calm head for dealing with the unexpected, the roads can quickly cause you to change your plans completely!
Summary:

I came to Kaokoland mainly to meet members of the Himba tribes who live here. There are organisations who arrange guided visits, I joined on to a group and I went to the homeland of a Himba family. We got to see how they live, and they shared the activities of their daily lives with us, which I managed to do more or less!

This arranged meeting gave us the opportunity for exchange and dialogue during the brief visit.

On leaving the Himba family, I cross Kaokoland and continue north where the condition of the roads becomes steadily worse. It takes me several hours to travel just sixty kilometres. I head for the Kunene river.
