Namibia's capital is the point of entry and exit and also a nice city to visit with nevertheless a higher rate of delinquency and crime than in the rest of the country, so you do need to be on your guard.
My suggestion:
Avoid going out alone at night and remember to lock yourself in the car when driving about, as it is common to be bothered at red traffic lights.
Summary:
During my stay in Namibia, I spent several days in Windhoek in particular when I first arrived, before going on to discover the country. Everything touristic is concentrated on Independence road. There are some good restaurants and a few lovely handicraft shops.
In Windhoek, it is possible to visit the black township of Katutura albeit with a guide , unfortunately, I did not as time was lacking, but I did hear good reports of the guided tours given there.
Instead, I made do with a tour of the city centre, via the front of the church and the statue of the horse rider that sits imposingly nearby, before finishing up with the city's history museum. As for the botanic garden, I imagine the rest of the country stretches out before you for that!
Lastly, you must eat out at least once as there are some very fine restaurants.
