Keetmanshoop is an essential stop when southbound in Namibia, a compulsory stopping place located at the junction of Luderitz and Fish River Canyon.

My suggestion:
If there is nothing exceptional about Keetmanshoop, do not miss a visit to Quiver Forest 8 ml farther up North.
Summary:

When you are southbound in Namibia , towns become scarcer and distances longer. As such, Keetmanshoop is a godsend for those who happen to be in that region. I arrived at Keetmanshoop at night as I spent the last hours of the setting sun walking through Quiver Forest, a sublime aloe vera forest located just 9 ml north of Keetmanshoop that has become a Namibian national monument.

At sunset, the trees are silhouetted against the starry sky, sublime!

Worth the detour is another site right next to it, Giant's Playground, a heap of boulders that seem to have been placed there by giants!

As always in Namibia, the town serves mainly to stock up on supplies before continuing on your way. There is nevertheless a lovely church and a museum to see.
