The best way to get to the gorges of Zireg is to take the main road from Sidi Abdellah-des-Rhiata. It's the fastest road. But watch out for the hairpin bends. Then you can head off to tackle the gorges of Zireg when you're <a href="/morocco/">staying in Morocco</a>. When I arrived at the gorges of Zireg, I was struck by the contrast between the wooded region and the high cliffs. They are immediately recognisable by their highly distinctive reddish colour. The cliffs are pierced by a huge number of caves. Some of them are still lived in. I was amazed by these troglodyte dwellings carved into the very rock. If you want to extend your trip to the east of Morocco, I would advise you to head for Taza - an ancient citadel, around twenty kilometres from the gorges of the Zireg.
