The established trading history of Tiznit makes it one of the best places for Berbere jewellery. I noticed that the items of jewellery produced are often good luck charms. The famous khamsa is one such example. Also called a Fatma, named after the prophet Mohammed's daughter, it's a favourite token in Arabic countries as well as in the Jewish tradition. I was fascinated by the jewellery in Tiznit. Silver talisman necklaces that supposedly have healing powers, pieces made from coral to promote fertility, amber jewellery to symbolise wealth alongside West African ebony beads or takhnagts, made from silver nuggets and black pearls. You'll also find unusual items such as ankle bracelets worn during special occasions. If you do buy jewellery in Tiznit, take the time to compare prices and bargain hard - Berbere market traders are canny merchants!
