About 45 minutes by train from Kyoto, Nara is a city which possesses important historic monuments that have been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list and which certainly deserves a visit during a tour of Japan.

My suggestion:
One day is sufficient to visit Nara. I recommend making a day return trip from Kyoto or Osaka.
Summary:

In my opinion, Nara counts among the practically unavoidable destinations during a trip to Japan, as the city is interesting both from the point of view of historical as well as cultural heritage, for a better understanding of the Land of the Rising Sun.

I loved visiting the temples of Nara. Among them, I recommend the exceptional visit of the Todai-ji Temples, with an impressive wooden Buddha 18 metres high! Neither shall I forget Nigatsu-do, which offers a fine view of Nara from the top.

A visit to Nara during the day also means a pleasant stroll through Nara Park, where you will encounter the deer that tamely come up to tourists looking for food. So take a few supplies and prepare yourself to be charmed by this city.
