Lovely coastal village in the south to discover during your trip to Crete !

My suggestion:
Ideal stopping point for lovers of long, beautiful hikes in the mountain, towards Samaria Gorge.

Agia Roumelo is a really lovely Cretan village. I spent a day there relaxing in the middle of the surrounding mountains: a natural landscape of incredible beauty. Ideal to recharge one's batteries in the open air! In summer, if you wish to cool off from the heat, visit the beach at Agia Roumeli: a pretty pebble beach, with warm sand, turquoise water and bright sunshine! To avoid sunburn, I recommend that you hire a parasol on site, not forgetting the deckchair: lounging on the beach is the order of the day!

Agia Roumeli is known, above all, as a pleasant stopping place for hikers coming back from their trip to Samaria Gorge. The accommodation here is very reasonable; I recommend the local cuisine, with lovely Cretan family recipes!

Cultural travel lovers will appreciate a walk in the village. I loved the sites at Agia Roumeli: the church of Panagia for its floor fully covered in mosaic and the remnants of a striking Venetian castle which dominates the village.
