I'd already been in Zagreb for a month when I decided to visit Samobor (on the advice of some Croatian friends), and I did not regret coming here for a day to explore the city and enjoy the local food! Samobor really takes no time to get to by car from Zagreb, which means you can spend a good few hours here before heading back to the hustle and bustle of the capital.
Samobor is a small city; so just a few hours is all you need to take a good look around it. A river runs through the centre, and by more or less following its course you can see and visit most of this little city. Its little streets here soon give way to a park which leads out of the city and takes you right up to the ruins of a castle. This gives you something interesting to head for!
When I got back to the centre, I was quite hungry. There are a few restaurants here and these serve generous portions at affordable prices, but it's also a good idea to leave a little room for the famous local cake served at the city's Slasticarnica u prolazu cafe.
