One of Croatia's most beautiful (and most visited!) islands, Korčula has managed to retain its traditional character, despite the increasing pressure exerted by tourism.

My suggestion:
Try to come here out of season if possible: the island can get quite busy and hectic in summer.

Korčula is without a doubt one of the most beautiful of Croatia's islands: a wonderful rugged coastline formed from volcanic rock that plunges right down into the Adriatic, and a magnificent nuanced palette of colours, from the deep blue of the sea to the intense green of the pine woods, and that's without mentioning the white stone of the old buildings in the town centres.

I strongly recommend spending at least two days in the old town of Korčula, which is a kind of miniature Dubrovnik. It is a magnificent fortified town made up of a maze of little streets and tiny winding alleys. Another advantage Korčula has to offer is that it receives far fewer tourists than its big sister Dubrovnik, even if the island is now becoming increasingly popular as a summer destination in Croatia. If you want to more fully enjoy a relaxing stay on this idyllic island therefore, visit it out of season!
