Đakovo is a quaint and charming little town located not far from Osijek and Vukovar and well worth a visit when travelling in this region.

My suggestion:
Horse lovers will be in their element here. This is where the famous Lipizzan breed comes from, and there are local stud farms that specialise in breeding and training them.
Summary:

After visiting Vukovar during my trip,I made a brief stop at Đakovo. It is a quaint and charming little town. I especially remember the large market square here, with local shops all around its edge, and the red-brick Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul, which is unusually large for a town with such a small population.

Though Đakovo is famous for breeding Lipizzan horses, I did not actually get the chance to explore this aspect of the region.

It was through visiting Đakovo and other little towns and villages in the this area that I was able to discover and experience the various wonderful things the region has to offer, such as its culinary specialities, its local produce, etc. Slavonia is a little-visited region, and much less popular with tourists than the coastal areas of Croatia. However, it was precisely the traditional authenticity the area has to offer and the fact you can get much closer to the genuine local people here that I found so charming about the place.
