Quepos, a small town located close to the Los Quetzales National Park in Puntarenas Province, is especially well-known as a place to practice sport fishing and surfing.
My suggestion:
Accommodation is cheaper in Quepos than it is out in the countryside, which makes it a good place to base yourself if you intend to explore the national parks close by (Manuel Antonio et Quetzales).
Summary:
It wasn't one of the best places I visited in Costa Rica, but the surfing atmosphere and the close proximity of the Manual Antonio National Park, the most country's most famous, give it a certain attraction.
This also means there are numerous good quality restaurants, art galleries and, especially, a succession of souvenir shops there. I found Quepos to be a little too touristy and urbanized for my tastes, but for those who enjoy thrills and excitement, it is possible to book organized horseback rides along the beach as well kayak and rafting trips. These are enjoyable ways to get out into the surrounding environment. Where the local wildlife is concerned, bird watching enthusiasts may get the opportunity to photograph very rare species such as the quetzal and the scarlet macaw, as well as humming birds.

Quepos is a town on Costa Rica's Pacific coast from where you can reach Manuel Antonio National Park.
My suggestion:
I recommend staying a few nights in Quepos, in one of the hostels located up in the heights of the town, on the road leading to Manuel Antonio National Park. You certainly won't be disappointed when you see the incredible ocean sunsets!
Summary:
Quepos is a quite nice town located on the country's Pacific coast. Many tourists travel here to go sport fishing, to hike through the rainforest or to have a go at treetop zip-lining and canopy tours. And of course, there are others who come simply to enjoy the coast or surf the ocean waves. A visit to this town is therefore likely to be one of the main excursions you make during your trip to Costa Rica.
When you're in Queopos, I imagine you'll only have one thing in mind: a visit to the famous Manuel Antonio National Park (and you'll be right to want to go there). To get the most out of your visit, I advise arriving early in the morning when the park opens. This will enable you to avoid the hordes of visitors and, most importantly, give you the chance to see the animals in their natural habitat!
