Although the trail is 425 km long, few hikers undertake the full distance. Traditionally, tourists do the most popular part between Abisko and Nikkaluokta, which lasts 5 days. Add 1 to 2 days if you want to include the ascension of Kebnekaise. So, will you let yourself be tempted by this 100% trekking trip?
For me, being accustomed to treks, this one was not difficult. Gratings have been installed to avoid the marshes and the indications are clear enough to avoid getting lost. Like other trails (such as the Padjelantaleden), the environment is beautiful: tundra, boreal forests, wild mountains and reindeer.
However, I observed that the Kungsleden is a victim of its own success (less so in winter, I imagine) and the shelters are taken by storm, which spoils the ideal of wilderness and wild nature. Fortunately, you are free to camp at a distance of more than 150 metres from a shelter.
