I loved the Cederberg landscapes, the mountains are so beautiful, made from polished stones as far as the eye can see. The mountain route is very pleasant, it is tarmacced from Clanwilliams, then when you go back down the other side, you come across a track that passes through the middle of a wide canyon. The scenery is magnificent, you feel like the only person in the world, the track is not well travelled! 
En route, we stopped to visit the superb cave paintings and to buy Rooibos, an infusion of a local energising plant that grows nowhere else in the world but here. This is the shortest path from Cape Town to Upington, towards Botswana or The <a href="/botswana/">Kalahari</a>, but we never get bored of it! It is easy to follow, and at the end you join a brand new tarmacced road to continue through the desert.
