Hiking in South Africa

Graskop is a small, agreeable village with a few hotels and restaurants and activity centres of the rafting, canyoning etc., kind. Here one can also see the holiday homes of wealthy South Africans. 
In Afrikaans, 'graskop' means 'grassy hill', and here we are effectively out in the open, because the village is at 1,400 metres altitude! It is situated at the entrance to the panoramic route near Kowyn's Pass which leads to the Blyde canyon and which can be crossed by car (estimate one day for visiting, taking into account all the stops for the viewpoints). One can stop at each panoramic viewpoint to admire the river and the rocks far below, from every angle. The most beautiful viewpoint is God's Window - a must-see! I was sorry to see that the village was dead in the evenings. There really was nothing to do other than go to sleep early! It's better to go to Sabie for more dynamic nightlife!
