A superb lake in the Huayhuash Cordillera (in the Ancash region) and the last camping site of one of the most beautiful treks in Peru.

My suggestion:
Don't be content to just sleep! A day "off" to explore the area around the lake or even fish for trout is an extra-special conclusion to this trek and and very nice it is too.
Summary:

To do the Huayhuash circuit is an incredible experience, simply the best, during a trip to Peru. And the arrival at Jahuacocha lake is magnificent. To think that the intensity of the landscape can get any better, when your eyes are almost stinging at the sight of such beauty..

If you follow the same itinerary as me, you will get there after "the ascent" of the last pass at nearly 5000m, or 16,500ft in altitude (that of Yuncha Pinta), but you will be so used to it after more than a week at high altitude that you'll almost do it with your eyes shut. And the view from the Cordillera... find out for yourself!

To give you an idea of what this spot is like, the little bright blue Lake Solterachocha adjoins that of Jahuachocha (you'll have understood by now that cocha means lake in Quechua) and then in the background there's a delightful glacier...again a magical setting. Ooh err, going back to real life is going to be difficult!
