The Cañon del Colca is a wonderful place! After several hours on the bus, I arrive in Cabanaconde, a charming little village where most of walking trails that head to the canyon begin.
Sangalle sits by the river Colca and benefits from its own microclimate, conducive to agriculture (many different types of fruit are grown here), giving it the nickname 'oasis'. I go down there around 3 o'clock, and the walk there is definitely worth it: the mountains are magnificent with the incentive to get down being the famous oasis! I leave quite late as it's quite hot and suddenly I'm more or less alone, save for those who are climbing back up with difficulty (the hurried ones who need to catch their bus). I approach the oasis, it's there, I see it! It seems like it's just at the end of the road, but it is a bit further than that... Eventually I arrive in a little corner of paradise: a warm water pool, fruit juice... a well-deserved rest.
Of course I am not alone, most of the walkers who trek with an organisation sleep on site. After a refreshing break, I continue on my way until the next village in the canyon where I stayed the night.
